Blaxploitation Smackdown: Coffy vs. Black Caesar

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

The favorite and celebrated exploitation genre, blaxploitation, is full of an overwhelming number of titles.  Some films strived to be the best and poignant films of their day and others were complete shit (see The Guy from Harlem).  Here are two films remembered as being iconic in this genre and worth consideration for a rental.

Coffy seems to come off as a serious film.  But, numerous gratuitous shots of bare breasted women (including Pam Grier!), multiple cat fights, and ridiculous plot take away from the gravity of the film.  Actually…let’s say this adds to the film.

Black Caesar is a story about a street kid who takes a meteoric rise to the leader of a crime syndicate.  It includes everything from crime, drugs, dirty cops, and racism (and lots of the n-word).  This film can definitely treated as a more serious film than Coffy.  It also has an absolutely badass soundtrack!

“DICE” An intimate evening at the Palazzo Lounge–Las Vegas

Friday, March 27th, 2009

OOHH.....So my buddy told me to leave Thursday night open.  He told me he had a special surprise as a thank you for doing his taxes.  We go the Palazzo and head towards Samba Sushi…  I tell him “What the F%$K Bry…  Didn’t we just eat”?  The hostes says “Do you have tickets”? She takes us to the really small back room.  We sit down and there is the silouette of “DICE” against the back wall.  I was shocked.  Dice is hilarious and I was really surprised at the entire experience.

So lets talk about the show:

DICE still has it.  He comes out to this small stage and mic.  We are only 10 feet from him..  and the even the crowd in the back is only 50 feet away.  It was awesome.  Small and intimate.  Probably less than 100 people there.  So Dice has on this outrageous black and purple leather jacket, crazy hair, and an unlit cigarette.  He has no real set script like he always does.  Most of the time he just rips on the front row.  Using every derogatory statement known to man– and maybe even new stuff…  If you can handle expletive after expletive then this show will blow you away.  Bleep bleep bleep bleep… and then a regular word.  He also works the crowd.  Somebody will yell something out and he plays it off so well.  Even Bry yelled out a nursery rhyme that caught him off guard.  One of the old ones he hadn’t done in a while.  Its about 45 minutes of gut wrenching laughter.  Even the crazy chick who opened and Dice’s sidekick Wheels had the crowd rolling.  If you ever liked Dice don’t miss this show.  He is here for 2 more weeks.  It is absolutely hilarious.  Not just 2 thumbs up….  but 2 thumbs jammmed right up your wife’s A$$…  OOHHH!!!!!

EnglishRussia

If you want to waste some quality time on the internet, do I have a site for you!  I think it’s called EnglishRussia because it’s Russian things written in English. It’s a great site with all kinds of high resolution photos of wonderful Russian things like Chernobyl site seeing, wild Russian decaying architecture, and Miss Atomic Russia. Highly recommended! Check out the alcoholic freezer treats someone made; it was so cold outside that vodka froze. I guess Q-tips were the only thing they had handy to use as sticks.
